About this Workshop:
Having a strong and dedicated founding team is a key pillar to building a successful company, but how exactly do you build a strong founding team? Join us in hearing Shane and Derek, the founders of Founded, a legal automation platform for businesses and lawyers, and how they went from colleagues and friends to co-founders and finding the right partners to build the foundation of a fantastic team.
Speakers: Derek Hopfner & Shane Murphy, Co-Founders, Founded
A former business lawyer, Derek worked for over 6 years at a mid-size law firm focused on helping small and medium sized businesses start and grow. Now, Derek leads marketing and operations at Founded. Derek regularly speaks to industry groups about the future of legal services and to groups of entrepreneurs on how to start and scale companies. He received his law degree from the University of Alberta and degrees in business and philosophy from the University of Calgary. Outside of Founded, Derek is an avid runner and record collector.
Shane started his legal career at one of Canada's largest law firms and then moved to a business and litigation boutique firm. At Founded, Shane leads all legal products and processes, closely working with the design and engineering teams. An expert on startup companies with global ambitions, Shane has appeared as a guest on BNN's "The Disruptors" and provides educational support to entrepreneurs through the Entrepreneurship 101 program at MaRS. He holds two law degrees from McGill University, and a master's degree from the London School of Economics.
